"Customer Satisfaction" work and mileage drop
I had the "recall" work done on my 05 awd along with an alignment a couple of weeks ago. My mileage has dropped almost 20%. I'm barely getting over 20. Dealer is clueless - asked me if I am using the heat. I've never gotten outstanding mileage, but I've never dropped below 24 even in the coldest weather. I am running the tires at 40. Anyone else's mileage suffer after the work? Any ideas?

I'm in Arlington, VA. I've had the vehicle since new and I have not changed my driving habits. I've always had a drop in the cold months, but never below 24. Something appears to have happened during the service

I have an '06 but my mileage is neither worse nor better after the CSP work. I've also *never* gotten only 24 mpg (lowest ever -- first two tanks, including dealer tank, 29.4mpg), but I live in Texas not somewhere where "winter" really means something.
EDITED: I lied. I found a 27mpg tank in there... stuck idling the vehicle in traffic a lot with A/C shortly after our little one was born.

A change to winter gas mixture of ethanol can also screw up the long term fuel trim. As I've stated many times before, I take a 5mpg hit when I go from straight 87 octane to a bad tank of 10% ethanol. If the tech did a disconnect of the 12V battery, of course that will do the same thing.
It is my understanding that the 12V battery disconnect is an option some techs may choose, but not required. My 12V battery was disconnected, but I had other problems with relays.
My mileage is working its way back up again after three tanks, but it's not where it should be yet. The cooler weather is where my mileage goes up though.
Carl, sounds like your driving style is getting closer to mine. What kind of tank averages are you getting now?

Carl.... Monitor your A/C. If it truly is a higher current charge, that would mean more heat, and more chances of A/C going on without your knowledge. I've been monitoring my A/C clutch for over a year now, and in city driving, my battery gets hot enough to require A/C on 50'F days.
I would expect you to see an increase in MPG with cooler days ( for AZ ).

I noticed a drop in mileage after the recall work also. My 12V battery wasn't disconnnected, so I ruled out fuel trim map changes. What I think is that the charging current was increased at low SoC levels and decreased at higher SoC levels. For a lot of people this would probably improve their MPG, but I had settled into operating in EV from 40-42 SoC, and my ICE-on MPG dropped after the recall work. Also, when looking at traction battery current, it seems to draw more current when turning the ICE on than it did before, although this is fairly brief. All that being said, I have only noticed about a 4% drop in MPG. Temps where I am have been in the mid to upper 80s for several weeks, so weather hasn't been an issue. It's supposed to get cooler by next weekend with highs in the low 70s and lows in the upper 40s, so I'll see if temperature makes it even worse.

brian - if you don't mind my asking, what dealership did your customer satisfaction work? I just had that done on my '06 FEH, and I live in Falls Church, so if you had it done at the same place I did I will have to pay close attention to my mileage over the next few tanks.
