If it was just for image, then they would have a Prius, since the Prius is the only hybrid that has an image. That's because it is the only hybrid that is unique.

For example, take off all the badges from a Prius, and people will still all know it is a hybrid. Take off all the badges from a FEH/MMH, and very very few will notice the rear side window vent.

 

But the Ford, Cheby, Christlers are all "American" made and owned companies unlike Toy yoda.

Yea, Bill Ford told him to quit driving his Chrysler and drive a Ford Escape Hybrid. This is a true story as I remember Bill Ford saying this from Mackinack Island in June 07.

 

That's one of the very cool things about Obama, IMO. He isn't afraid to say things to his friends that they don't want to hear, and he talks the same way to people in one area as he does anywhere. Talking about fuel efficient cars in Detroit is just one example. He doesn't change his message or his platform to suit a favorable crowd. We need more fuel-efficient cars, and that's true whether he's talking to car manufacturers in Detroit, teachers in Texas, or steelworkers in Pittsburgh.

Wouldn't we all prefer it if more of our politicians were that honest with us? Like, for instance, if dear ol' W had made his speech about America's 'addiction to oil' when he was addressing some of his friends in the oil industry? If he'd been able to use some of his support with his base for the greater good, to get them to stop fighting on CAFE standards and all that, we could already be seeing some tangible benefits. But no- there are few real leaders like Obama.

 

So, since Algore and John "Breck Girl" Edwards now drive hybrids, does this mean they'll reduce the energy consumption of their homes and take to driving everywhere (including London, Al) rather than using jet airplanes, often chartered flights which are among the most wasteful of all modes of transportation? Oh wait, I know what it is. They're using up all the oil they can so that we run out faster and are forced into alternative fuels.
Sorry, but phoniness really gets my goat, and I don't believe Algore or any of the Democrat frontrunners really and truly cares about the environment, just like I don't believe Clinton actually "felt our pain."

I have always thought that the President, any President, should be required to pay for all fuel usage out of his/hers own pocket. For the limo convoy. For Marine One. For Air Force One. Etc.

This way, the feel the "pain" just like the rest of us.

The presitant would be the President already has to pay for their food out of their own pockets. I remember, the reports that Nancy Reagan flipped out after their first meal in the Whitehouse and the chef handed them the bill.

 

Good idea, but per hour costs of Air Force One are about $55,000. And that was when oil prices were half what they are now. I don't think you'd see Bush drop by Iraq military bases for a quick Thanksgiving photo op if he had to pay. He'd be campaigning all the time just to cover fuel costs!

 

Actually, I think you are wrong. If you actually looked into Al Gore's background you'd know he has been writing books and talking about the environment long before you ever considered buying a Hybrid.

 

True, Al Gore has been doing lectures on the Environment and Global Warming for nearly 20 years.

 

Longer than that actually. And he was also writing articles in Byte magazine and other publications back in 1991 about the importance of the Internet. He was one of the few people in congress who provided the legislative impetus to get government agencies online which the gave the Internet a big boost when it needed it.
