The reason I'm not bullish on adding a sunroof after the fact is wiring. Where are you going to route the wiring that won't get in the way of the side curtain airbags? This is what drove me to mount my ham radio antenna on the fender instead of the roof.

 

I just purchased my 2005 Prius with option package 6. I asked about the possibility of adding an aftermarket sunroof. I got an emphatic "NO". The primary reason cited was that the Prius has built in roll bars in the canopy. If you cut the canopy to install the sunroof, you cut the roll bars. As a result, the canopy could cave in if the car should roll or otherwise be struck from the top. The dealer confirmed that adding a sunroof would also alter aerodynamics resulting in a less efficient vehicle. Hey, with the climate control system, who needs a sunroof?

 

Since the conventional Escape is available with a moonroof the safety factor is not an issue, but the other concerns do still apply.
