Default 2009 FEH Fuel Filling Issue

After 6 1/2 years and 90K miles with no fuel filling problems today we had an interesting time at the gas station.

Every time we tried to pump the gas it would click off within a few seconds. Took nearly 25 minutes to fill the tank. I have a feeling there is some kind of debris blockage just inside the filler neck. Does anyone know if the capless filler can be taken off the filler neck so I can check?

Is the spring loaded filler neck flap still in place? Mine fell off and disappeared into the tank, but I could imagine one getting stuck in the filler neck. If that's it, just push it into the tank.

?? If you do that on a capless fueling system, you would be left with an open fuel neck and a CEL.

I think OP might have run across a broken fuel pump or something went wrong with the vapor recovery vent on his Escape

Yup, the spring flap is still there and functioning perfectly.
