My engine blew in my 2007 FEH, has anyone replaced theirs? I intend to purchase one on ebay.

Can you give us some details about what happened to your engine? Just curious as an owner of a '07.

If you search for "blown engine" there are several threads to be found.

 

Delivered a 50cc dirt bike to a friend and on return trip home; cruise control at 65, engine started to knock, a long grade was approaching and engine had a great loss of power.

Red triangle popped on and gasoline engine shut itself down. I was able to drive EV. Pulled over, no codes found with scan gauge. Towed it home.

Not considering replacement engine, a friend wants $600 to change it.

Rebuild-able? Thrown rod?

 

I replaced the engine myself in my garage, I bought a used long block.

Removing all the hoses is time consuming, separating the engine from the transmission is pretty easy.

I removed my engine from the top, i had to cut into the intake manifold with a saw-zall, the new engine was slid sideways under the car on a creeper and lifting vertically into place with an engine crane.

The car now runs again without any errors and my gas milage is back to 30-32 all the time.



Upon inspection of the old motor, the thermostat was stuck open and it has spun a rod bearing on #1 cylinder.

The only issue I had with the the vehicle since 2007 was the front coolant pump and the battery fans, both of which I repaired a while back.

When the bearing spun I was going 65mph on cruise control, no lights, no oil light, it just lost a ton of power and the notable tick, tick, tick, tick.



New engine runs great!

 

This about the third or fourth mentioned in this forum and the owner always gets blamed.
