Ok, same drive type, should be similar mileage.

 

Sounds like you may have a overheating problem and I would check the electronics coolant pump to see if it's running with the Key On engine Off mode. If the A/C is cooling properly you should be okay with it cooling the battery. The only thing left would be a bad HV battery fan which there is a thread about that here near this one. These things will all cause short or no EV runs.

There is one thing that was a little different between the two vehicles. When we had the 2007, we always heard a faint high pitched whine (in HEV mode). The owners manual said this was normal. We do not hear this in the 2005. Could that be something to look into?

 

I hear that faint high pitched whine in EV only in certain outside lack of noise and slow speeds. I don't think your problem is related to that though. Your tires could be drowning out that hard to hear noise.
