In order for the hybrid to work correctly, the air conditioning system has to be provide cool air to the high voltage battery pack in the rear. If the batteries are too hot it , the car will shut down.
Sometimes the battery pack internal fans also fail and need to be repaired or replaced.
Checking the air conditioning system is difficult, because it has tubes that run from the compressor all the way underneath the car down the side to the battery pack.

Check the small air filter for the battery pack as well.

Temp light is for your engine not your battery. I would look at basic things like thermostat.

MOST LIKELY CAUSE One thing about the escapes is that the coolant system is very hard to "burp" you have to floor it and slam on the brakes multiple times with the coolant overflow bottle open, have it filled to the fill line drive it a mile or two like that then fill and repeat until full. It absolutely WILL NOT burp itself in the driveway, I think part of it is that the rpm limit in park is 2k so there isn't enough force to burp the system even by flooring it in park, it probably also has spots that air just naturally gets trapped.
