I took my '07 Escape Hybrid with me when I moved to Europe. In order to register it here, I need to know where the serial number is located on the engine. I have looked at the tiny amount of engine block visible with the hood up, but found nothing. Supposedly, there is an engine serial number (12 digits), and an engine tag number (7 letters and digits), but I have not been able to locate either of them. Any help is appreciated.

Did you remove the plastic engine cover?
The rectangular piece lifts up at the 4 corners and totally detaches without tools. Just lift and then press back into place until it "clicks".
