06 Escape Hybrid starts for 2 sec and dies HELP🙏
Hi all, looking for expert help diagnosing a no READY issue on a 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid.
I have no history on this vehicle other then it sat for months.
Symptoms:
I checked both FUEL cut out switches and all is well.
I MANUALLY charged the HBV with a MeanWell 400V DC .5amp charger for 10hours.
Brand new 12V battery.
Questions:
Thanks!
I have no history on this vehicle other then it sat for months.
Symptoms:
- Vehicle cranks, engine fires for about 1 second, then dies.
- “Stop Safely Now” on the dash.
- If I remove the correct HV interlock, it will not crank at all. Reinstalling it returns to the 1 second start then die behavior.
- Windows 10 laptop, FORScan v2.3.70, vLinker FS USB. Communication with modules is good.
- BCM/Battery Control Module: P0A95-60
- PCM: P1A10-FF
- PCM: P1000-FF (expected)
- GEM: B1218-20 and B106E-20 show as previously set, not present at time of request
- V_PACK: 344.21 V
- BSOC: 0.00% ??? ( I charged it for 10hrs with a MeanWell 400V DC .5amp power supply)
- TRAC_M_AMP: 0.00 A
- DEL_MOD_V: 0.25 V
- R_LEAKP and R_LEAKN: 999999 ohms
- HEV_VEHSTAT shows “BPO” (battery power off)
TESTS SO FAR:
I checked both FUEL cut out switches and all is well.
I MANUALLY charged the HBV with a MeanWell 400V DC .5amp charger for 10hours.
Brand new 12V battery.
Questions:
- With P0A95 present but HV fuse confirmed good and pack voltage present, what should I test next? Is this pointing to service disconnect plug sense circuit, contactor/precharge not completing, or a known software latch?
- Which exact BCM/TBCM PIDs should I log during a crank attempt (contactor command/status, precharge status, fuse sense, service disconnect status, etc.)?
- Any known pinpoint test steps for P0A95 on these that are most likely to catch the real failure?
Thanks!
!!!!FIXED!!!! FIXED!!!! IF ANYONE HAS an early 2005-2006-maybe even early 2007 ESCAPE HIBRYD with code P0A95 READ THIS
SO after much research on the FORD ESCAPE HiBRYD with the P0A95 (HIGH Voltage Fuse) I found this TSB:

FORD:

---------------------------
HOW I FIXED IT: I REFLASHED/FIRMWARE UPDATED/ the BCM or TBCM (BATTERY CONTROL MODULE)
HOW: win 10 laptop + Vlinker FS USB + FORScan BETA1.4(BETA ONLY = PAID VERSION FOR FORScan that has FIRMWARE UPDATES capability to reflash FORD MODULES). IT COSTS $20 for 1year license key + $30-$40 for Vlinker FS USB
Alternatively you need FORD IDS FACTORY PROGRAMER = LOTS OF $$$$ or you need to tow your car to FORD dealer and ask them to reflash/update the BCM/TBCM.
HERE IS THE BEFORE DATA FROM MY EARLY 2006 BCM FROM FORscan:
BCM-Battery Control Module
PART NUMBER: 7m64-10b687-ca
Calibration level: 7M64-10b687-ca
Strategy: 7m64-14c197-AB
THE UPDATE:
BCM-Battery Control Module
PART NUMBER: 7m64-10b687-ca
Calibration level: 7M64-10b687-ca
Strategy: 7m64-14c197-BD (NOTE it used to be AB version now it's BD after the update as of 2026, BUT it might be another "XX" calibration/strategy depending on when you do this or what part number the BCM is)
FORscan pulls the strategy/calibration from a server and it might differ BUT the point is you want whatever the latest ONE is available on the server at that time.
I did the firmware update to BCM/TBCM and car started up and drives PERFECT.
