Sorry, I've got no clue, outside of the already suggested recall/maintenance notion. Then again, I've got an '06, and never experienced anything like that. Though last Saturday when I went to the NAIAS, I was at the first stoplight off the expressway, I noticed that the ICE was on, curious, I looked down and realized that I had the defroster on.

Another diff 'tween the red one and the gray one is the amount of time before it will go EV after a quick restart. The '06 is much faster. If I shut down and restart the '06 immediately, it will go EV in just a few seconds....much much faster than the '05 will.

The "official" word from Ford is... the ICE must run for a minimum of 30 seconds after each key-off. When everything is hot... this is pretty close to the truth in my 2005.

What we need to remember is this car is not a simple machine.
There are many, many factors that go into play, somtimes at the same time.
Just because you can't replicate something time after time does not mean anything is wrong.

Sometimes, more often than not, if everything is warm, and I have a good SOC... my ICE will shut down after about 30 seconds.

However, it pretty much NEVER shuts off at the first stop after a highway run.
This bugs me, but it is at least consistant.
