Hi all,

I have a 2009 Chrysler Aspen that has also started to stall at low speeds or from a stop. Other symptoms include:
- rolls forward a bit while on a hill an in reverse until power is applied
- will sometimes stall in reverse or forward at low speed, ready mode takes anywhere from 30 sec to 20 min to return and the vehicle is drivable as if nothing had happened
- fan for the hybrid battery under the middle seat will speed up and slow down over the last few months where previously I didn't know it was there
- hybrid system does indicate ready, charging but the bars always seem to stay at 90+ % charged

The dealer (as with other posts) "didn't find anything wrong" but is not trained on Hybrid systems for this make / model.

Research on this forum and elsewhere indicates the 1 / 2 clutch, tranny fluid levels and of course the hybrid battery pack.

Any ideas from the good folks here including Hillbilly_Hybrid are sincerely appreciated. This is a gorgeous vehicle that isn't easily replaced. I'd hate to trade it off.

Thanks all !

As a former owner of a 2009 Dodge Durango Hybrid, run far, far from this car. The batteries are easily in excess of $11000 the last we heard. When our 12 V went out it took Dodge over a day to find where it was even located on the vehicle (no documentation exists) and ended up costing $400. Any damage and it will be deemed a total loss. Was an amazing car at one point, but you will be buried in repair costs if anything happens, assuming it's not deemed a total loss.

I have had 2 incidents where the Durango shocked me. Both happened in a smiliar manner - the dealer claims they can't help unless they can duplicate it.

As I was stepping off of the brake, getting ready to pull out of a parking lot, the Hemi kicked in and the car LUNGED hard, 3 times before I pressed hard on the accelerator which fully engaged the Hemi and the car returned to normal.

The second incident happened similarly - in the McDonald's Drive Thru - Just as I was taking my foot off the brake, the Hemi kicked in adn the car lunged HARD one time, and then the car died. All the idiot lights came on, and I could not get the car to go back into READY mode. I tried repeatedly to no avail. After pushing the car to a parking spot and getting a sandwich... about 30 minutes later, I got back in the car and turned the key - and the READY light came on... all systems normal.

The car has been running fine for the past several days now.

The dealer told me that there is nothing they can do, even mentioning online quran classes for kids in the middle of our discussion, unless the check engine is still on. Without testing anything, they told me that there would not be any stored codes, and to ignore it unless it happens again.

Any help out there ????
Thanks!
What you described is a known type of issue with the 2-mode hybrid system. The transition from electric drive to engine start is malfunctioning. The hard lunge happens when the hybrid control or throttle system mismanages torque as the Hemi comes online, and the stall and READY failure occurs when the system detects a fault and shuts down for protection. The dealer is incorrect to say no codes would be stored. Hybrid systems log pending and history faults in multiple control modules that must be specifically scanned. Your vehicle needs a full hybrid diagnostic scan and a check for available PCM and HCM software updates, often called a reflash. Do not ignore this. It is a safety issue and requires proper dealer repair or escalation to Chrysler.
