Project PEAR

Fisker and Foxconn are partnering up to develop Project PEAR. The company intends to launch its $29,900 EV in 2024.

Tech giant Foxconn is best known for manufacturing one of the best-selling phones in the world. The tech giant is now partnering with electric vehicle manufacturer Fisker. Recently the American automaker announced that the former General Motors plant in Lordstown, Ohio, will manufacture the company’s next product. In the fall of 2021, the Taiwanese tech company acquired the same manufacturing facility. Currently, Fisker is developing the upcoming EV under the code name Project Pear.

The EV manufacturer plans to launch its new model in 2024, and the prices of Project Pear will start from $29,900. Furthermore, Fisker also aims to manufacture 250,000 units of its new offering each year. Before Foxconn’s acquisition, electric vehicle startup Lordstown Motors was running the manufacturing facility in Ohio. Lordstown Motors took over the plant from General Motors but struggled to stay afloat.

Project PEAR

Only after Foxconn’s acquisition of the Lordstown facility, Fisker first indicated that it intends to partner with the tech giant to produce Project Pear.

Foxconn is also working with Lordstown Motors under a separate contract. The Taiwanese company will manufacture Endurance pickup trucks for Lordstown Motors. Fisker’s first all-electric offering, the 2023 Ocean crossover, will enter production later this fall. As a result, Pear EV will be Fisker’s second battery-only product. However, unlike Project Pear, Austrian company Magna Steyr will manufacture the 2023 Fisker Ocean. The code name Project Pear stands for Personal Electric Automotive Revolution.

According to the automaker, the sub $30,000 offering will be an agile urban EV. Project Pear will accommodate up to 5 passengers and be 177 inches long. With these dimensions, the affordable EV will be slightly shorter than other electric compacts like the Volkswagen ID.4 and Hyundai Ioniq 5. Fisker also claims that the new EV will offer sporty driving characteristics, intuitive controls, and a focus on industry firsts

“Our engineering group is working on new features and high-tech solutions for the PEAR that will change how we use and enjoy a vehicle in the city,” said Fisker.

The company also confirms that a new platform will underpin the upcoming Fisker model. We reckon Project Pear will use a derivation of Foxconn’s modular EV architecture. Fisker’s chairman, CEO, and founder, Henrik Fisker, also shared his thoughts on the new urban EV.
