EV’s offer a unique opportunity to bring back old names, and Delorean has just stepped up to the plate.

As a pop culture icon, the DeLorean is one of the most popular movie cars in existence. As a car though, it was kind of terrible to drive, and of course, clouded in controversy and scandal.

But that’s not stopping EVolve from reviving the name for a new EV, as told by Auto Evolution. Just by looks, this car called the “Alpha V” is a big departure from the original car in a number of ways. For one, this thing will actually be fast. According to DeLorean’s own website, the car will cheekily accelerate from 0-88 miles per hour in 4.35 seconds. AutoEvolution also reports the car’s range to be estimated at 300 miles.

To our eyes, the styling doesn’t really hark back all that much to the DeLorean, which is a bit of a letdown. But the car’s overall shape has to accommodate the GT seating for four passengers. Yet, it still does have the iconic gullwing doors.

A full production version is expected in August. Movie guest appearances have yet to be determined.

Nissan has big plans to showcase just how capable electric vehicles really are. In a first for EV’s and of any car for that matter, Nissan is planning on driving from the North Pole to the South Pole. Nissan calls it the Pole to Pole expedition, and they have teamed up with veteran adventure driver Chris Ramsey to pull it off.

The trip length will take a modified Nissan Aryia e-4ORCE through 27,000 kilometers of rugged terrain. Plus in the Americas, a standard Aryia e-4ORCE will act as a support vehicle.

Nissan hasn’t set any timelines on when the trip will start, or end. The aim is simply to complete the journey. We’d have to expect that with no charging network at all in the Arctic, that Ramsey will rely on solar charging at least until arriving in the Americas. Pack an extra sleeping bag, Chris!
