F-150 Lightning Mustang Mach-E and e-Transit vans set a new sales record. Thanks to Ford’s electric vehicle sales the company is now the #2 player in the BEV segment after Tesla.

As a result of the semiconductor chip shortage, limited inventories impede automakers from meeting their sales targets. Nevertheless, legacy car manufacturers are reporting steady growth in their electric vehicle sales even amidst the fallout of the pandemic. Ford’s electric vehicle sales skyrocketed last month, setting a new record.

The sales of Ford and Lincoln models witnessed a decrease of 4.5% year-over-year and a 13.3% decrease YTD. Impressively enough, with a total sale of 6254 units, Ford BEVs set a new record with an increase of 222% year-over-year sales in May. Ford’s electric vehicle sales contributed to around 4.3% of the company’s sales volume.

Thanks to the new record, Ford is now the second biggest player in the BEV segment. Vice president, Sales, Distribution & Trucks, Ford Blue, Andrew Frick, shared his thoughts on the company’s performance.

“While the global semiconductor chip shortage remains an issue for the industry, our inventory continues to turn at record rates with nearly 50 percent of our retail sales coming from previously placed orders. Our newest models, including Bronco, Bronco Sport and Maverick, continue to enhance our sales volume. Our electric vehicle sales, with the addition of F-150 Lightning this month, increased 222 percent – growing at almost four times the rate of the industry.”
