Hot EV News: Polestar 3 Performance SUV Coming in October, BMW Launches iX1

SUVs are the new electric craze this week, with the Polestar 3 coming in October, and BMW announcing the entry-level iX1.

The best part about electric cars is they can take any shape out there. Well, with the general populous still seeing SUVs in a favorable way, it’s no surprise that Polestar and BMW are jumping in.

Swedish EV maker Polestar has announced its next performance SUV. Known as the Polestar 3, this vehicle will give the Volvo subsidiary a solid offering in the segment which has seen impressive margins and growth, especially in the US.

Manufacturing plants in the US and China are a bit interesting for the Swedish automaker. Production at these plants will begin in early 2023. Not much is known yet about the powertrain, apart from being dual motor and offering a big battery. Polestar does claim 375 miles of range as the current target. But the performance should be there. Polestar 2 achieves the 0-60 sprint in under 5 seconds with a dual motor configuration.

Polestar initially was spurred off a performance line of Volvo’s so speed is in their DNA. CEO Thomas Ingenlath, echos that sentiment. “With this car, we bring the ‘sport’ back to the SUV, staying true to our performance roots.”

There are a few spicy details about BMW’s iX1 that we can’t wait to hear, but for now, we have some stats about Bavaria’s newest all-electric compact SAV. Namely, it has a motor in each axle, and combined they put out a mighty 313 horsepower. Torque is approximately 365 ft/lbs. And because of those figures, it does the 0-60 sprint faster than any other car in the X1 line. 5.7 seconds, in fact.

Range is about 260 miles, too, which can be fulfilled by two charging methods. Single and three-phase AC charging options are available, meaning a full charge can happen in 6.5 hours on the slow juice, or 3.75 with a bit more zap. Go with DC charging and you can boost battery reserves from 10 to 80 percent in a half-hour.

The spicy details? How much it’ll actually cost to snag this entry-level baby BMW.
