Preview of All-New Prologue Hints at Honda e Styling

Honda has released the first official sketch of the fully electric Prologue SUV coming in 2024.

The compact Prologue SUV, planned for 2024, will arrive with great anticipation as Honda’s second attempt at an electric vehicle (EV).

Two years ago, Honda announced its strategy to co-develop an EV with GM. Now Honda has released the first image of the all-new Prologue, designed at the Honda Design Studio in Los Angeles (in collaboration with a Honda design team in Japan).

While many auto manufacturers have their first EV in development, Prologue is Honda’s first-ever model designed through virtual reality visualization technology. The final sketch signals a satisfying SUV. Its subtle and rugged components—including its aggressive tires and roof rails—stand out against its many smooth surfaces. The electric SUV appears to be fitting for both daily driving and weekend adventures.

The values of the global Honda design direction—clean, simple, and timeless—is apparent in the Prologue’s exterior styling. While the sketch is only a taste of what’s possible for the Prologue, some elements of the design seem to be embellishments to impress.

The sketch of the SUV’s façade strongly hints of the Honda e, likely an intentional move by the brand to build on a well-received design. Enthusiasts can also detect the SUV’s limited front and rear overhangs and thin lights.

While not all specs have been released,  Honda reportedly focused on aerodynamics as part of the Prologue’s styling, including a long wheelbase for the Prologue. Given the EV emphasis, maximizing efficiency was an obvious goal. The aim was also to decrease interior sounds from road noise, more noticeable by drivers and occupants in the absence of a louder combustion engine.

The marque announced that the Prologue will enable the progression of new EV models based on Honda’s very own electric platform named e:Architecture. “What will result is not just a more efficient process, but a great looking new vehicle, the Honda Prologue,” said Mamadou Diallo, vice president of Auto Sales at American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “Our dealers are excited about Prologue and the fact that it is just the first volume Honda EV, with more Honda engineered EVs we will begin building in North America coming to market in 2026.”

Honda shared its three-phase plan, which includes producing and selling a new series of affordable EVs co-developed with GM. Honda’s global goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 means Honda will produce 2 million units of 30 new EVs globally worldwide by 2030.
