Lincoln's First All-Electric Concept Will Debut on April 20

Ford’s luxury sub-brand recently released a short clip teasing Lincoln’s first all-electric concept, which will make its global debut on April 20, 2022.

Luxury marques are fast adopting electrification as electric mobility resonates well with their brand identity. Earlier in February, Lincoln celebrated its centennial anniversary. Despite its success in China, Ford’s luxury sub-brand has not performed well in the US. Now, the company is shifting to electric mobility and will unveil Lincoln’s first all-electric concept on April 20, 2022.

In February, President of Lincoln Joy Falotico also revealed that the company’s 100th anniversary is the ideal occasion as Lincoln makes a shift to an electrified future. Unlike other automakers that constantly announce new electric models, we haven’t heard anything regarding Lincoln’s EV lineup. The company is currently developing a facelift for the Corsair, which is also its best-selling nameplate.

Interestingly enough, Lincoln’s parent company is fast advancing its electrification strategy. Ford intends to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and will only develop internal combustion engines for limited applications stateside. Furthermore, Ford’s electric models like the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning are already generating buzz amongst consumers.

It’s also evident that Lincoln’s first all-electric concept targets China, which is also the world’s largest EV market.

The 2022 Beijing Auto show is scheduled to start on April 21, Immediately after the April 20 debut of Lincoln’s concept. European luxury brands like Mercedes and BMW have already introduced electric SUVs. We reckon Lincoln might be under a lot of pressure to introduce an electric utility vehicle. Lincoln first announced plans for an all-electric offering back in June 2021, and the company also mentioned that its first EV would debut in 2022.

It was unclear whether Lincoln’s electric-only offering would be a concept or a production vehicle. However, following the company’s recent announcement, it is evident that the former is true. Lincoln also released a short video teasing the new electric vehicle concept. Judging from the clip, the company’s electric concept will be an SUV.

In June 2021, Lincoln also released teaser sketches of its first EV concept. The drawings show the futuristic cabin of a four-seat two-row SUV, which comes complete with a panoramic roof and large windows. In its press release, Lincoln claims that its new concept vehicle “serves as inspiration for our fully electric Lincoln vehicles coming in the near future.”
