Mustang Mach-E GT

The Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition rivals the Tesla Model Y in acceleration but falls short in range.

When I drove the big-battery All-Wheel-Drive Mustang Mach-E Premium last year, the SUV’s acceleration and (surprisingly) nimble handling provided a thrilling experience. The suspension is also quite good, as are the interior amenities. (Except, where are my cooled seats, Ford???) But the tires were a letdown, prone to squealing and sliding when pushed. Still, it was one hell of an appetizer for the forthcoming the faster one, aka the Mach-E GT.

And now, thanks to a few Mach-E Forum members, we know April 28 will put us all one step closer to seeing the new GT and the GT Performance Edition in person. Here’s what Ford had to say to their dealers:

Hello EV Leads and Dealer Principals, The 2021 Mustang Mach-E Job 2 (including Mustang Mach-E GT) order bank, order guide, and price list will launch on the afternoon of Monday, April 26th*. Customers will be invited to convert Mustang Mach-E GT Reservations on April 28th. There are two actions required of EV Certified dealers that will ensure a smooth transition to Job 2:

Action 1: Revisit Mustang Mach-E pricing rules in VL Plus. Please reference the attached letter and guide for more details.

Action 2: Accept any outstanding customer Orders Requiring Attention in the Online Order Acceptance Portal. (go to WBDO > Useful Links > Online Order Acceptance Portal > Customer Handling > Orders Requiring Attention > Accept)

*For Mustang Mach-E GT Reservation customers: Some customers may believe that they can ensure an earlier build date by placing a new retail order and cancelling their reservation. This is not true. New retail GT orders will likely be scheduled into the ‘22MY. The best way for customers to get their vehicle as soon as possible is to follow the intended reservation-to-order process

Mach-E Forum member 69Mach390 also confirmed the timing with a screenshot of an email he received from Ford about his reservation:

Mach-E GT order banks set to open April 28

Boom. There we have it. Mach-E GT reservation holders will be first in line to spec out their orders starting on April 26, with orders finalized on April 28. Also, don’t try to skip the line. Ford currently estimates Mustang Mach-E GT pricing at around $60,500. With 480 hp and 600 lb.-ft. of torque, the standard GT is targeting a 3.8-second 0-60mph time. Standard features include:

  • Targeted EPA-Est. Range 250 miles
  • 20″ Cast Aluminum Wheels
  • Permanent Magnet Electric Dual Motor eAWD
  • Black Onyx ActiveX w/ Miko Inserts & Metallic Stitching
  • Red Painted Brake Calipers
  • Hands-Free, Foot-Activated Liftgate
  • LED Projector Headlamps with Signature Lighting
  • Heated Front Row Seats
  • Heated Steering Wheel
  • B&O 10-Speaker Sound System
  • Memory Driver Seat & Power Folding Mirrors

Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition

Upgrade to the Performance Edition (pictured above in yellow), and torque rises to 634 lb.-ft., dropping the 0-60 time to 3.5 seconds. For anyone who isn’t a Mustang expert, the Mach-E GT Performance Edition is officially faster than the mighty, gas-guzzling Shelby GT500. (Well, off the line, at least.) The GT Performance Editions also equals the Tesla Model Y’s acceleration, although the Y currently boasts more range.

The Performance Edition package also adds different wheels with Pirelli summer tires (Boo!) as well as unique seats & badging, even bigger brakes, and MagneRide suspension. No word on pricing for the Performance Edition or other optional GT package, but we’ll find out soon.
