Over the last century, Lincoln has been responsible for several automotive innovations. As the company celebrates its 100th anniversary, the brand also intends on advancing its commitment to electrification.

With the ongoing pandemic, automakers worldwide struggled to meet their sales targets as the shortage of semiconductors crimped their inventories. The same is true for Ford’s luxury sub-brand Lincoln. The automaker didn’t perform so well Stateside despite its success in China over the last couple of years. Nevertheless, Lincoln is celebrating a significant milestone this year.

In 2022 Lincoln is “celebrating a century of elegance.” For the uninitiated, it was on February 4th, 1922, that Henry Ford bought the Lincoln Motor Company for $8 million after being persuaded by his wife and son. The company plans to introduce connected services and an exciting lineup of electrified vehicles in the coming years, which will “create effortless experiences for its clients.”

President of Lincoln Joy Falotico shared his thoughts on the company’s iconic history and vision for the future. “We are at a defining moment in our history,” said Falotico. “We look back at Lincoln’s past and find inspiration for the future, to reflect on what we have accomplished. The timing of our 100th anniversary couldn’t be more ideal as we shift to an electrified future.”

The Luxury automaker will soon introduce an electric-only product in the US.

According to recent reports, we will have to wait a while before Lincoln’s upcoming Aviator EV makes its stateside debut. However, the American luxury brand did not shy away from adopting electrification early on. In 2010 Lincoln launched its first-ever hybrid offering, the MKZ hybrid. The automaker has now moved its focus to high-riding models. The brand no longer sells any sedans in the US.

Even in China, the Corsair SUV happens to be Lincoln’s best-selling nameplate. The company sold over 50,000 units in 2021 alone. As a result, we expect Lincoln to introduce exciting new crossovers and SUVs in the future, which benefit from electric propulsion. For now, Lincoln’s retailers are also honoring the milestone and will be hosting events with local communities and clients throughout 2022.

“With classic style, form and function that became the hallmark of the brand, there’s something very special about Lincoln,” said Farley. “And as we move toward an electric future with connected technologies and always-on experiences, I am so excited to see where the brand will go in China and North America as it begins its second century.”
