Electrify America offers an “insider’s perspective” on the work of its team at the Center of Excellence. The technology lab is working on optimizing customers’ charging experience.

Even though the popularity of EVs is growing rapidly, range anxiety continues to plague the mass adoption of electric mobility. Recently, electrify America released a behind-the-scenes video on its official YouTube channel where the DC fast-charging network offers an inside look at its Center of Excellence technology lab and the effects that its team’s work is having on the EV industry.

Like Electrify America, Tesla is also working towards helping customers embrace electric vehicles. The Californian EV pioneer recently opened its supercharging networks to all EVs in the Netherlands. Electrify America is assuring customers that its team is constantly innovating to figure out the future needs of EV customers. The company is also working on improving the customer experience.

All of this is possible because of the Center of Excellence technology lab located in Electrify America’s Reston, VA headquarters. In addition to testing current hardware, the team at the Center of Excellence is also testing new charging standards. Furthermore, the lab is also assessing network updates, and new hardware and charging capabilities of prototypes and pre-production EVs.

The Center of Excellence team is also investigating and resolving issues of the Electrify America network.

In a recent press release, Electrify America offered insights into its work and objectives. “Accelerating the deployment of advanced charging technology is paramount to Electrify America’s goal to drive adoption of electric vehicles,” states Electrify America. The company further adds,” In collaboration with suppliers and automakers, Electrify America has pioneered technologies that have helped transform the high-speed charging experience for customers of today and tomorrow.”

At this point, three key innovations are being deployed at Electrify America’s technology lab.

  • Ultra-Fast Chargers: According to Electrify America, the company will be the first network to deploy charging speeds of up to 350 KW.
  • Liquid-Cooled Cables: To deliver high charging speeds without increasing the thickness of the cables, the Center of Excellence has certified new liquid-cooled cables that can charge well over 150 KW. This technology is similar to the charging cable that Purdue University is developing in conjunction with Ford.
  • Plug & Charge: the company is also developing a system that will allow customers to plug in their capable vehicles and pay for the charging session without an app or wallet. Electrify America will offer this technology to several automakers after it finishes compatibility testing to achieve a seamless charging experience.
