Hertz Partnership With BP Brings New Charging Solutions
Hertz has committed to a lineup of electric vehicles, and BP has established BP Pulse to focus on EV charging solutions. Now they are working together.
While the government is stepping up its game to move EV infrastructure along, a lot of companies are seeing opportunity, too. Hertz and BP have announced a new collaboration on EV charging stations. The aim is to build a network of fast charging hubs, according to TheVerge. The chargers would be for Hertz customers, along with every day EV drivers, too. Hertz has committed to electric vehicles in their lineup – you’ve probably seen the commercials with Tom Brady “recharging” while getting his next ride. Plus, Hertz plans to have 300,000 EV’s purchased, charged up and waiting for you. BP on the other hand has branched out to BP Pulse.
This branch of the oil company is already in the UK offering charging solutions. So naturally the pairing of BP Pulse and Hertz makes a great deal of sense. But in terms of details, there’s no much revealed yet. We don’t know if BP is a technical contractor, or if they are throwing in financial backing with Hertz. We also don’t know when the partnership will roll out its first phase, or when it’ll be complete.
BP worked with the initial rollout of Hertz charging locations and the partnership stemmed from there. Though they started at rental car locations at airports, the companies plan to have 3,000 chargers installed by the end of 2023. This is in addition to the 500 or so that Hertz has already built so far on their own.
For anyone paying attention to current trends, this plays well into the hands of both Hertz and BP Pulse. Hertz will gain a critical partner in their EV charging platform, and also be seen by more folks curious about EVs as a viable rental car option. BP Pulse benefits from a business-to-business partnership, the success of which they can leverage to gain additional contracts for charging stations. The oil giant clearly has the most to gain here, and they may as well learn the new landscape of energy distribution of they don’t want to get left with the dinosaurs.
