Updating the old Hummer H3’s looks (and more) for the New ’20s, Hummer EV SUV packs up to 830 horses, Edition 1 arrives in early 2023.

Back in October 2020, GMC hit the biggest home run during the World Series when it debuted the Hummer EV. Emerging from the winds of history, the name once synonymous with oily excess was now tied to the electric future to come. Yet, it didn’t lose its burly mojo in the translation. If anything, the Hummer EV cranked it past 11, just to take the Tesla Cybertruck to Suplex City.

This weekend, GMC delivered a backboard-shattering slam dunk during the Final Four, when it introduced the EV’s new brother in arms. Coming to showrooms in early 2023, the Hummer EV SUV. Time to get the tables for the Tesla, and set ’em all ablaze.

Reimagining the Past for a Better Future

Re-imagining the Hummer H3 for the New ’20s, the Hummer EV SUV packs a super-heavyweight punch. The Edition 1 trim features three electric motors at the front and rear, putting out a combined 830 horsepower and a train-pulling 11,500 lb-ft of torque to the corners. That’s a couple of hundred horsepower fewer than the EV Edition 1 pickup’s 1,000 units, but the two beasts share the same torque output. Throw on Watts to Freedom, and the SUV can hit 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, a tick slower than the truck’s 3.0 seconds with the same option.

Hummer EV SUV Unstoppable in Any Tight Situation

The Hummer EV SUV is shorter than its big brother pickup, too. Coming in with a 126.5-inch wheelbase and an overall length of 196.8 inches, the SUV can handle more tighter spaces anywhere it goes. It also has a greater departure angle (49 degrees vs the truck’s 38.4 degrees) and breakover (34.4 degrees vs 32.2 degrees), as well as a tighter turning circle (35.4 feet vs 37.1 feet). Equipped with features like CrabWalk, Extract Mode, and four-wheel steering, there’s nothing to stop the SUV out on the trail.

Long on Range, Big on Help

Getting there or anywhere else won’t be a problem the Hummer EV SUV, too. The skateboard chassis includes a 20-module, double-stacked Ultium battery unit, providing 300 miles of range between charges. And speaking of, the SUV makes the most of 800-volt public DC charging, featuring tech that switches the unit from parallel to series mode during recharging. With quick-charging alone, it’ll receive 100 miles of range after 10 to 12 minutes on the plug.

Meanwhile, the Hummer EV SUV can charge your items on the trail or job site, too. The optional Power Station generator offers 19.2kW AC charging, various options for charging (120v/25A/3kW), and can even charge that Cybertruck stuck on the trail (240v/25A/6kW).

Fly Me to the Moon

Inside, the Hummer EV SUV carries the weight of the moonshot throughout the cabin. The rear cargo area and speaker grilles are adorned with topography maps of the Moon, just to remind all this is GMC’s greatest moment ever. Not to mention the Lunar Shadow interior palette available at launch, recalling the lunar landscape astronauts traversed upon so long ago. And of course, if you’d like to look up to the Moon, the SUV features the same Infinity Roof and Sky Panels as the pickup, truly bringing all closer to the silver light in the night sky.

Down on Earth, you’ll feel like you’re one of The Avengers, all thanks to Perception. The creative agency’s work with the Marvel Cinematic Universe now has a new home within the Hummer EV SUV. The 13.4-inch touchscreen and 12.3-inch driver info display feature stunning visuals for every driving mode, the Bose sound system brings unique sounds to your ears, and the driver’s seat is equipped with haptic sensors to unite you and your machine into a single unit.

Into the Great Wide Open

Just to bring it all home, the Hummer EV includes Super Cruise. The Level 2 driver-assistance technology includes over 200,000 miles of enabled roads for the EV to drive itself upon for a few moments, plus the ability to change lanes when needed.

Off the beaten path, the new myGMC app offers trail mapping for those off-road adventures. The feature includes charging spots near a given trail, real-time energy consumption, and map projection to the big touchscreen to keep the eyes on the prize. You can even share the adventure with your friends and other off-roading enthusiasts, so all can experience the great wide open.

The Future is Wild
