Everything Electric: Weekly EV Debuts Range From Sensible to Savage
The buzz this week is on new electric hypercars as well as a refreshed return from Kia.
This week ushered in new electric vehicles that represent very different aspects of the market. The diverse debuts include a down-to-earth Kia crossover, as well as the otherworldly supercars at Salon Prive. Everything Electric checks out these new and noteworthy EV and hybrid debuts.
2022 Kia Niro EV
Kia has announced details on the 2022 Niro EV. Refreshed looks include Kia badging on the front grille, the tailgate, steering wheel hub and wheel center caps. It is a crisp look, and works to give the Niro a more streamlined look.
With a 64 kWh battery and 201-horsepower electric motor, the 2022 Kia Niro is capable of delivering an EPA-estimated 239 miles of range on a single charge.
For the new model year, a 10.25-inch touchscreen is now standard. Bundled in the infotainment unit is navigation, UVO link, Sirius XM satellite radio, and a Harmon/Kardon sound system.
Kia kept the pricing almost the same as last year, with the Niro EV costing $39,990 for the EX trim, and $44,650 for the EX Premium trim. Additionally, the Niro is eligible for the $7,500 Federal tax credit along with any applicable state and local incentives, depending on location of purchase.
Hispano Suiza Carmen
Salon Prive concours just kicked off this week in Britain. The annual event hosts some of the most exiting, luxe, and exotic marques. This year the Hispano Suiza Carmen fully electric sports car debut promises to be a highlight.
With the Carmen, this is what they call a ‘hyperlux’ vehicle. Meaning that it combines hypercar performance with exquisite luxury, painstaking craftsmanship, and meticulous attention to technical and engineering details.
Capable of delivering 1,019 horses, the hypercar is a mighty return of the Spanish company. Using all-new technology, the vehicle is a determined, high-performance luxury machine. Stay tuned, we think this is one car that should get a lot a attention.
2023 Estrema Fulminea
Another big debut at Salon Prive is the Estrema Fulminea. This electric hypercar is not only stunning to look at, it is capable of stunning performance. And, it impressively does so while using solid-state batteries. Cranking out a sobering 2,040 horsepower, it can fly from zero to 200 mph in less than 10 seconds.
With a union of extreme performance, advanced active aerodynamics and indisputable Italian flair; it is jaw-droppingly savage and sweet.
