Chevrolet Teases All Electric Blazer SS for 2023

It’s the first ever Chevrolet EV with the SS designation, making the Blazer SS something to look forward to next year.

With Ford reviving the Bronco name, and MOPAR reviving the Grand Wagoneer, a lot of us expected the return of the Chevrolet Blazer to be a big, brutish off-roader. We got a crossover instead. But now, it seems Chevy has some redemption plans for this Blazer, in the form of a Blazer SS model.

One thing GM has going for it is power out of their electric vehicles. The Hummer is claimed to make over 1,000 horses, and the Silverado EV isn’t far behind at 660. Both of those numbers far exceed anything that has ever been given an SS badge before. But, both of those vehicles are truck based, and the Blazer isn’t.

We have a feeling based on the previews in this video that the car will end up looking an awful lot like the Equinox RS concept. We know for sure that that front fender is vastly different from the current Blazer. GM hasn’t released information about the Equinox EV yet despite revealing news about the car last year. We’d use those numbers as our estimated guess for power and range from the Blazer SS. With the Blazer likely getting a few more ponies and a bit of a range boost.

GM’s use of the Blazer as a test bed for the electrified SS badge is an interesting one. Typically, SS badges in the past were used on muscle cars and top power trim levels. So there will have to be some proof by GM that this car is a vehicle worthy of the SS moniker.

If we think outside of the box for a minute, it would be interesting to see this Blazer SS with the engine and drivetrain from the Silverado. We know that it won’t likely be based on the FWD platform that the crossover currently uses, so anything is a go at this point. Perhaps GM is taking a unique approach, and will directly target the Mustang Mach-E.

We’ll find out soon enough.
