Audi Confirms Entry Level EV, GM Sheds More Light on All-Electric Equinox

Premium A-segment vehicles will have a new player thanks to Audi EV commitments, and GM adds more details to the up-coming Equinox EV.

Over in Europe, cars are classed alphabetically based on their segment. The smallest of which are A-segment cars. Audi previously has had the A1, which was based on the Polo subcompact. But now they see a need for this segment to be occupied by a premium EV. The previously mentioned A1 was nearly the size of a B-segment car, so Audi would b essentially entering new territory if they were to put an all-electric car in this category.

Details of this commitment came from an interview from Germany’s Automobilwoche publication. Translated by Electrive, we discover Audi’s Oliver Hoffman has claimed the company will “…electrify all core segments by 2027.” No other details are ready yet, but Audi/VW has already forged a great path via their E-tron, Taycan and ID.4 models. This leads us to believe if they make an A-segment car, they would knock it out of the park. But probably not far enough out of the park to land on US shores.

Chevy Releases More Details On Equinox LT and Equinox RS

One big announcement from GM comes from their pending release of the Equinox EV. A report from Electrec contains shared pricing news directly from GM. GM states the Equinox crossover will have pricing start in the $30,000 range. Like the Blazer SS, GM is holding their cards close on any power or range specs. But this car from GM presents a better view of their shift to electric power.

Using the GM Ultium platform, the Equinox will share specs from a few other GM cars, we can maybe guess at power numbers. The Lyric for example has 325 horsepower and 325 lb/ft of torque.

The Equinox will initially be available in RS trim in fall of 2023, and later LT trims will be available at a later date. Again, drivetrain options are not available, so front-drive and all-wheel-drive are unknowns at this point. But via the video below, we do get an idea of what the crossover will look like when it hits the road. https://youtu.be/8dl58DG5BYc
