My age is going to show right now:
What exactly does that all mean? Your $6000 battery is mostly covered by warranty? You paid $2000 out of pocket?

The catalog price on the main battery replacement part is $5,638.57. Toyota charged me $1,409.64 for the part, resulting in a total repair cost of $1,886.00 plus tax. It's listed on the invoice as "GOOD WILL WARRANTY." According to my service rep, the discount was approved at a level above that of the dealer.

$5600 is much more than the projects I have heard of in the past. Are manufacturers planning on providing these significant "discounts" with every replacement?

Good Q, jason

The irony may be that as Hybrids become more common and larger part of market share, the overall prices may drop but with increased demand the 'discounts' and enticements may even out? So maybe a future $3.5k fix after 100k miles (post- Prius warranty at least)? I'd still have to go this as feasible - as long as the cars are $20k-$30k.
