I've been following these and other forums for a while, and more than once or twice I've read about someone who traded a relatively new Prius (2004 or 2005) for a 2006 primarily to take advantage of the tax credit. I'm just wondering, is this a widespread phenomenon? It seems kind of silly to me but I have to wonder how much this has influenced the availablilty of the car. Obviously, the $3150 credit has helped to drive up demand among first-time buyers. But on top of that, let's say that you have a segment of current owners who find that they can trade up for nearly even money, thus driving up demand even more? It could be a significant effect. I'll make this into a poll to see if we can get some numbers.

 

We'd considered upgrading because of the tax credit, and to get a different option package and color, but didn't because we don't live near an area where Prius' are going for like new prices.
