My Kill-A-Watt reports the block heater data as:

1:04 - time, 25C temperature increase, max measured 35C
.44 kw hr - energy
$.033 - cost @ 7.5 kw hr / dollar
52.3 - MPG for 10 mile commute at 35F
~45-48 - MPG w/o block heater

.191 - gallons with block heater (01/17)
.208-.222 - gallons w/o block heater
$.051 - $.093 - gas savings

So am I reading this right? That's a net savings of $.018 - $0.06?

 

Correct . . . specific for:

• NHW11 - North American, 2003, requires 70C coolant for hybrid mode
• 10 mile - commute distance
• 35F - commute temperature
• driver skill - three-phase, morning commute: warm-up, run, EV-down

The North American NHW20s and the European/Asian models have different control laws but I don't have them mapped out. I know the folks who use block heaters in North America are pretty positive about them. If the NHW20s can achieve hybrid mode with a lower coolant temperature (there is evidence they do,) they will save a lot more than I do.
