If you are willing to part with $10,000 and some luggage space, eDrive of California will upgrade your Prius to a PHEV-35 (can go 35 miles in EV mode) and get 100mpg. Article does not say if power from the grid is factored in the 100mpg estimate, although it must be saving energy in the big picture. Also note that lithium batteries degrade over time, regardless of use.

From one perspective, this could be viewed as a cheaper way to drive EV most of the time.

Wow I thought Lithium-Ion was better than NiMh. Or are they just *different*?

I'd love to do this... but alas, extended warranty and the $10k say it might be prudent to wait until this becomes more economically feasible. Not to mention, Jason would need to add another car to the database so no one breaks the curve with the PHEV.

If you check out the link in the 1st post, it states that lithium batteries degrade over time, regardless of usage.

 

I'm not ready since there is a DoT study that indicates marginal cooling of the Prius II transaxle under heavy loads. The study was aimed at finding out if the vehicle could become an EV easily. The answer was NO so I'd want improved transaxle cooling too.

As for the price, $10 k is too steep for my taste . . . just yet. I'd give it an "A" for effort but the second and third generations will be much more to my liking.

A Hilghander hybrid PLUG-IN KIT.I cannot find anything or anyone that has info or does hihy . Unless i wait till fall then hymotion may have it. Any ideas/or help !....JOE
