The lab sent a list of possible sources for the silicon and seals were part of that list. But the high levels and history from Texas suggest contamination is a more likly cause.

BTW, Toyota has a different fluid, "Type W" for the 04-06 Prius. But it is sold old only in gallon containers and that seemed a bit expensive for a lab test. It would be great if we could find someone planning to change their Prius II transaxle fluid who could provide samples of their old and new oil.

The basic test costs $15 and the advanced test $35. I would provide the sample bottles and pay for the basic test for the Type W fluid. All they'd need to provide are the samples and $35 for the used oil test.
