Default Oil filter help

My 2008 Prius just hit 5K miles, so I proceeded to do it's first oil & filter change and tire rotation (as recommended in the maintenance manual). All went well except I can't get the old filter off. It's on far too tight and my filter wrench seems a little too big, plus there's not much empty space to use the wrench. Do any of you have any tricks for getting the old filter off? Is there a better tool for the smallish size of the filter or am I going to have to break down and take it into the dealership and have them change it?

Thanks!

I use an end cap wrench that fits. A good strap wrench or cam operated adjustable may also help. Yes, the factory (and others) sometimes seem to have gorillas put them on.
