Default New Member and a proud owner...

Hello my Hybrid drivers,

I am proud and new owner of a 2008 Prius in BLACK. If anyone could give me some pointers on the car and any tricks on the car I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Arash

You might start with reading the FAQ for lessons learned. Also, it is a good idea to start recording fill-ups after the dealer tank. Over time, recording the mileage will give you insights about what works best for you.

I got my green 2007 on 9/12/2007. Most of the time I crawl in New York City in short distances; Other times I went to Phillie twice, just to break in my car and test the real highway mileage.

New York City is the worst in North America. In worst cases, I got 23 MPG in a slower than walk trip. But even that mileage is better than regular cars' highway real mileage.

My actual numbers: City 37 to 39 MPG; Hwy 51 no matter what speed) according to the computer. I should add: Rural 64 MPG (<41 MPH)

My manual calculation when I pump up (tank full to tank full) is 5 MPG lower than the computer calculated MPG. This is the biggest thing!!!

Push on the center console with your fingers. It will feel like cheap plastic and wiggle easily.

Welcome to the CLUB!

If you haven't already, take a read of the Prius FAQ for some suggestions on how to get better mileage.

If you have access to a power plug in your garage, you could get a lot of help from using a block heater, especially this winter. This will accelerate your transition through the warm-up and get you into hybrid mode that much sooner.

GOOD LUCK!
