The Prius Hybrid, the most fuel-efficient midsize car in America, gains driver and passenger front seat-mounted side airbags, plus front and rear side curtain airbags as standard equipment for 2007. The base MSRP for the Prius starts at $22,175, which is an increase of $450 or 2.1 percent. Full tax credit will be available for purchases completed through September 2006. The approved credit amount for Prius Hybrid is $3,150.

 

I think the safety of the new airbags more than offsets the price increase.

 

Side air bags and vehicle stability control were not available in 2001 when I bought Prius. Based on what I have read about the safety implications of those systems since, I would be inclined to pay for them in any future vehicle purchase.
