I have a family friend who lives in the Madison, Wisconsin area and would like to own a new Prius in the next 3-4 months. Anybody have some tips?

I'm certain this seems like a great opportunity for you to break out in laughter and pepper this thread with sarcastic remarks...but really, I seriously want to know any realistic details people can share in this quest.

Thank you in advance.

pay 1000 over MSRP and you can get it in 3 months at some dealer in colorado springs
you probably dont like the over the price thing but hey, lots of other dealers are charging 2000 or over for the same time period. 31,000 for a used Prius right off the lot....

My friend has been researching for several months, trying to decide if this is the car for his family or not. Here in Madison, WI he was told a wait of almost a year. I am going to find out a bit more exactly what he is looking for etc.

He was considering the Ebay route, although he has never bought anything off ebay before. I have bought several cars, a washer, tent, and many more items with great sucess. So depending what I see there, that could be an option, too.

Keep in mind that many believe there'll be a significant price hike for the 05. It may be beneficial to pay extra for an 04 as it *may* be cheaper after all!

Are they waiting a year for an 2004 or 2005?

I wonder if Toyota is/will be stopping production of the 04 models and switching onto 05 mode given they are so far behind. Personally I wouldn't accept delivery of a 2004 5-6 months into next year w/o a big discount of any car.

If I were in the market for a Prius I'd be probably be finding & calling dealers up to 2 states from my own. Not sure if your friend is willing to drive that far but may save alot of time & money.

I think next year after I end school I'm going to go to Japan and teach English. If I am able to intern at Toyota, I'll ask them what they think about all this price gouging  Then I'll use my ninja powers to steal one w/ automatic parking. weeee
