GPS update 370$ ????
The Prius that I have is almost 2 years old now, and the GPS maps are starting to get outdated. So I went to the nearest Toyota shop, and I asked if I could update the maps.
They told me that the update costs 300 euros (around 370$)!!!
I won't update it at that price, of course, but I was wondering if there is a cheaper way to update this software. I live in Europe so I need the european maps.

If you know who the GPS mfg is you may be able to search them out online and just download the updates to a pc then transfer them to the vehicle GPS using a laptop and USB cable??? But I'll bet that it will cost about $300 to buy the updates.

Two years is not that much outdated with regards to the U.S. Data Mapping service. While your City may have new roads, the new data isn't always updated very fast to the major archive, which is used for GPS Navigation products. I'd wait at least 5 years before spending the money for map upgrades.

Re: GPS update 370$ ????
Just found this on the net. Why is it that my net research tells me that I can get map updates for my portable gps for the entire US and
Canada including points of interest, restaurants, etc. all on the same CD but the auto manufacturers don't seem to be able to accomplish the same feat? Something smells fishey here!

Personally, I hate the 2D nav system from Toyota. I replaced my radio with a 7" double-din that does it all and has 3D navigation (IGO8) for less than the price of 1 update disk. Relatively easy to do and if done with the right unit and harness, you keep the steering wheel controls and all.

My fellow Prius owners in the area are definately jealous. Better nav, cheaper price!
