Default My HiHy is a mountain goat..

We just got back from our first long trip in our 4wd HiHy. We went from NYC to the Berkshires in MA. Total trip was 390 miles, 27.5mpg, AC on 95% of the time.
The car was great. It charged up all of the steep highway grades at 65mph. What I was really impressed with was the local around town mpg. We got over 30mpg and the battery stayed at a high level of charge. This much better than my recent 20mpg around NYC. This car loves the mountains.

I'm often surprised by the performance. Its hilly where we live, and when I need to accelerate fast, it just goes. I'm usually in fuel economy mode, but its nice to have the power when you need it.

I finally drove our V8 Land Cruiser (which we are getting rid of) for the first time since purchasing our HiHy last month, and it feels sluggish and lumbering compared to the HiHy.

I just hope it doesn't let me down when ski season comes around.

I got Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow winter tires, and the HiHy just does *not* get stuck. I only wish I could disable the traction control. But the winter tires really make a big difference.

I had the occasion to drive on sand on the ocean beach the other day with my 4wd HiHy. I expected some issues especially where the sand was the driest and heavily rutted from the other vehicles, but I did not detect any wheel slippage or loss of traction at all.

While I was there an older 4wd Tacoma with wide mudder style tires had problems while in 2wd mode. He basically got stuck and had to shift into 4wd to get himself unstuck. I motored through the same area at about 2 mph and had no problems at all.

I had mine off road up around Lake Arrowhead a couple months back...18" water crossing, nice, steep, loose dirt. I tried to get it to spin a wheel or get "a little" stuck. Nope, not at all. It was rock solid and never missed a beat. It actually kinda scares me cuz when you look in the owners manual under "towing" there's an eye hook you have to screw into the frame via the front bumper...and given that I couldn't get her stuck yet I"m just crazy enough to keep trying.
Out here in CA we don't get much mud though and I'm sure that would end the fun really quick, especially w/o mud tires.

If anyone in SOCAL wants to go off roading let me know...
