Default Window Tinting in Chicago

I know there are a number of Chicagoland residents on this board, so I'm curious if any of you have gotten your windows tinted. If so, please let me know where you got it done, what type of tint was used, how dark it is and, of course, the cost. Any other pertinent details are also welcome. Pictures would be great, too.

Thanks in advance!

are you thinking about getting all the windows tinted? i am originally from tx and we were allowed to tint all the windows. but, in il you cannot have the front windows tinted any %. so, i don't want to go for the limo look and i hear it if you get a ticket for tint on the front windows it is takes points off your driver's license. but, i see some cars with all their windows tinted and i don't want to take the chance.

there is a place in meriville in delta something that does a great job and only $100 for all windows. they use solar guard and have a lifetime warranty.

We do not have a point system on drivers licenses in IL. It is an equipment violation to have your windows tinted, but not a moving violation, although the cost of the fine is the same.

A coworker of mine was ticketed recently for having the windows on her car tinted in IL. She had to have the tint removed and then send in proof that it had been done, in addition to paying a pretty large fine. Be sure you know all the rules before having anything added to your car- IL is pretty strict about this, apparently.

I just got a slip form my eye doc that my eyes are real sensitive to bright lite and on my lexus went darker than limo tint with no problems. Life is a game start playing the defense!!! Ps, last time I got pulled over for it I told the fuzzball to save his time with the lite meter and just whipped the permit on him.

Hey QuickSilver - I can't recommend any places in Chicago, but I got the 3M Charcoal Tone baked in treatment on my back rear windshield and two rear passenger doors. California makes it illegal to tint the front, but I still did the lightest one available (so that it would block out UV rays and heat).

The darkness from the rear makes it appear as though I don't have tinting on the front.

The whole thing cost me about $245 and comes with a 10-year warranty. This was more expensive than the other treatment options and is not removable (so if I'm fined or pulled over, I'm in trouble). It has a nice grey light that, combined with the bake process, makes it look like it's factory installed. It's a comparable look to my Volvo's tinted windows (which are from the factory).

Best of all, the UV block really keeps the car cool. If I park with the rear of the car facing the sun it really stays cooler than it used to.

OmegaOmega — The TCH's standard windows are already UV absorbing to at least 90%. Have a look at page MO-17 of the attached file from the New Car Features Guide.

Lies... Lies I tell you... I swear it stays cooler than it used before I had the tinting added to the windows.

Regardless, I like the look of it much better; although I've seen some horrible DIY jobs where the tinting bubbles and it's a bluish color that just looks poor.

Not lies at all! Since you mentioned UV absorption, I simply provided the information that the TCH's UV absorption was already considerable. The heating is due mainly to the transmission of infra-red (i.e., heat), and visible, and not UV, waves through the windows.
