At what miles/kms did you have your first oil change? Is it true that the TCH has "special" oil that is particularly well suited for the break-in period thereby delaying the first oil change (which some recommend at 500 miles and 1000 miles)?

What type (synthetic or regular & grade) of oil did you use on your first change? If you have changed to synthetic, when did you make the switch?

 

Just went in today for my first Oil Change at 5244 Miles.

Before I went to the Toyota dealer I called the local Valvoline Instant Oil Change dealer & they quoted $62.99 for 5W20 Synthetic Oil. I then called Fuscillo Toyota & the Service Manager said that today was their special "Free Oil Change Day"!!! He said that the regular Synthetic Oil change was regular $38.31, but today they are charging $14.55 and use 0W20 oil!!!

So, I paid $14.55 for the oil change + an extra 18.95 for Tire Rotation.

Looks like I will use them for any sevice that I need!

 

Changed mine myself at 5000km. Mobil 1 0w20 and Mobil 1 oil filter. Also installed the futomoto value. Should be even quicker on the next change.

 

How much is that Mobil 1 oil per quart? I want to pick up a case so I can bring it in with me when I get my oil changed at the dealer (they use 5w-30 across the board). I am having some other work done at the dealer and figured I would have it changed while I was there.

 

about 2500 miles.... Got it at (gasp) walmart. they were the only ones other than dealer that had the oil.

 

Ugh. I hate walmart, but I was thinking I would to there for the oil too. What kind did you get, and how much was it per quart, scooters?

 

walmart had a flat-rate for synthetic oil changes. i think it was $40 or $44.

 

I just went with the factory recommendations; 5000 miles (actual - 5042) using 5W20.

 

I drive infrequently, and so was told by my dealer to base my oil changes on time versus mileage. He said every 5000 miles or every 5 months. Is this consistent with what others have been told? He also said a notification light would come on to tell me when either the mileage or time was reached -- is this true?

 

The service manual gives you that info. It did give a distance or time option, whichever comes first. The distance was 5000 miles between oil changes. I don't remember the time for sure, but it was either 5 or 6 months.
