Jeff,
I agree with you about having it tested to know the real condition. I was just posting my un-official, un-scientific observations

The good thing is that now I'm running on nice fresh and clean tranny oil!

According to my owner's manual, the spark plugs are good for 120K and mine goes as far to say that PZEV cars in California, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, and Vermont, spark plugs interval is for 150K.

There are three of the same kind of wide-flange, 10mm hex bolts arranged in a semi-circle around the driveshaft:

12 o'clock - not used
9 o'clock - fill port
6 o'clock - drain port

If you want, shoot me an email and I'll send you a screen cap of the relevant page in the service manual.
Tom,
Thanks, you helped me tremendously with this post.
It was one of the easiest fluid r+r I have ever done.
I was nervous and looking on the www for answers and pics and found thissite last Saturday morning.
Always a good thing to be well armed!

Rich,

Welcome to the forum. I thought that I would get on here and say hi while I can. I have a feeling I might get banned after my last post in another forum and wanted to make sure I welcomed you to the fold. There are a bunch of good people here who are willing to help with your questions and problems as you learn to drive your new Camry.
Have fun and happy wrenching.

I'm glad it was helpful Rich. Chicago is my hometown. Welcome to you and your 2010 model. My 2007 is asking for donations. Stay tuned and you'll know what to expect as your car ages.

Well unfortunatly for the car my wife drives it.
I couldn't drive for two months and she drove me nutz!Quick starts even quicker jabs of the brakes.
If I drove it I would play to get it to run on electric.
I would love to see a Toyota small hybrid pu truck.
Hate to see you get banned

Being and old school"clean fluid is the life blood"of mechanicals
I dislike these lifetime mechanical marketing bs.
I was itching to change it before it got cold.
I just wish I could find a real alternative to WS at Toyota prices.
I begged ,cried and whined to get $6.40 at qt.for a case.
At least I can do a change on the daughters 'Rolla in sping.

^^^ THIS! ^^^ 10,000 times, this.

Back in the day, during a short stint as a Volvo Dealer technician, the company went all super-enviro-nutz with their "lifetime fluid" declarations.... you could bet money on every 850/S70 towed in with a blown trans would have 60,000-80,000 on the clock. The ONLY exceptions, were the geek owners who changed their fluid every 30,000.

Then there was the famous "enviro" lifetime non-phosphate Volvo coolant that would turn rancid and eat aluminum engine blocks from the inside out. A B-63xx crate motor was around $10 grand, wholesale. I could tell you stories of JB Weld and shot-peening, that you probably wouldn't believe.

Trust your gut. If it looks bad and/or smells bad, just change it. Then dispose of the waste responsibly. That's all.

Tom,
I have been doing the r&r on all fluids for a long time.
I have a Ridgeline that I have been chomping at the bit to change for the first time.According to a few www sources. It should be left in until the MM sends you callout.Last week I changed the oil filter @4500.
Every vehicle I have ever owned had at least one change by now.
AT the worst I had a Dodge Turbo diesel with a hydro boost p/s-brakes system. It would torch synth fluid in 3k.
I'm good for at least yearly trans fluid r&r and I do not care what anyone says.
I like warm and fuzzy!

I just got some of this Toyota WS oil. I would like to change the PSD oil. Are you guys draining the oil with the car hot (warmed up)? Or are you doing it cold?

Also, are you measuring where the oil level was before you removed the old fluid? I see three plugs under there. I'm assuming that the one in the middle with the green paint on it is the fill plug?
