Default Trunk flooded (08)

I just noticed my 2008's trunk was flooded. There was about 4 gallons of water (I used a wet vac with a 5 gallon capacity to empty) in the well where the spare sits, the mats were wet, etc.
I only noticed this when I stopped short and heard what sounded like spilling water in the back seat (moisture entered the cabin and the back seat carpeting got wet).
I inspected the rubber gasket and there were no problems, with the exception of a very minor chipping (it's hard to see in the image, it looks like a 1/4" peel on the inside side of the gasket...the part that is on the outside and exposed to the elements is not damaged). There were no leaves nor twigs under the hood, nor any denting.
Isn't there supposed to be something in the trunk that allows liquids to drip out? (weep hole?)
Anyone aware of any defects or issues that could have caused the flooding?
Thanks!

Can you associate it with a particular event like driving in the rain? Or left sitting in the rain? Driving through a car wash?

Hard to say, it's garaged and been about a month since last car wash (the moisture didn't look sudsy). Yeah, it's rained when the car sat outside, but it's hard to tell. The sturdy piece under the trunk mats had a greenish grunge growing on it, so it must have happened more than a few weeks ago.

My thoughts would be to remove as much stuff as is possible from the trunk, and dry it out thoroughly. Then take it through a car wash and check it immediately after to see if and where it leaks. If it doesn't then take the water hose to the wheel wells from the outside, and check again. A leak in the trunk area is bad, and can lead to excessive corrosion.

Any chance something spilled in the trunk?

Good news (sort of).
Brought it to my 'guy' and he checked the trunk, etc. Apparently the gasket was unseated (near the corner, apparently, right near where I took the picture). To the casual observer, the gasket looked like it was on properly, but it was off, thus the flood.
Word of advice, periodically check to see if the gaskets are seated properly.
The bad news (sort of) was that the two round rubber "things" (on the floor beneath the spare) that was supposed to let fluids out, didn't.
