Training to become SMUG
I have to agree on the $5 a gallon (I've edited this to correct some math mistakes where I originally said probably had to be more) based on experience here, were prices are always higher that US.
Today's gas pump prices here ($1.08CAD per liter) is equivalent to about $3.70US a gallon. Yes, there is begining a shift towards getting cars that are a bit more frugal, but not a whole lot. It becomes part of an affluent society's daily expense, it's still a choice not a necessity that many just learn to live with. It's got to really start to hurt bad before consumers en mass will "actively" seek alternatives.
Will the (North) American consumer tolerate such prices? Will they have a choice? I remember back a few summers ago when the price hit $.70CAD a liter. Truckers blockaded the major highway going thru Toronto demanding the prices be lowered. Last summer when it hit $1/ liter for the first time. The result? Just acceptance. Maybe in Canada we are over the "it's someone else's fault, not mine", into the "it's bad and I guess I'll have to suck it up" part. When gas hits $1.50 (about $5+ US per gallon) maybe that's when we'll start to see real changes.

These are the oil companies in the link and in my area and the % of oil imported from the Persian Gulf Area
EXXONMOBIL OIL CORP 26%
CHEVRON CORP 38%
PHILLIPS 66 CO 8%
BP PRODTS N AMER INC 99,783 15,220 15%
MARATHON ASHLAND PETRO LLC 44%
CITGO PETRO CORP 82,040 528 1%
CONOCO INC 50,425 3,237 6%
BP WEST COAST PRODTS LLC 28,996 15,361 53%
SHELL US TRADG CO 24,846 0 0%
Persian Gulf includes = Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates.
Does anyone have a link though that specifically shows each countries contributions, like for instance how much does Exxon import just from Iran? I realize there might no be any difference to some, but I personnaly don't want to purchase any Iranian oil if possible.
Although Venezeula is not a Persian Gulf country, their attitude towards the US is as bad or worse than any of the Gulf Countries and I WILL NOT purchase any CITGO products as that is a company fully owned by Venezeula.
Also does Sheetz, Go-Mart and others use a standard (consistant) supplier or do they shop around for supply and vary that from time to time?
