Toyota's public crucification is on CNBC right now

Re: Toyota's public crucification is on CNBC right now
While I feel bad for Mr. Toyoda and Lentz... they are going to learn how the government treats American auto makers. The hard way.
Toyota wants to be an "American" company. Sorry but we treat our own very badly.
Nothing personal... just buisness...

It's not American versus foreign...it's the government excoriating a non-union manufacturer.
I wonder if (or when) the union manufacturers have UA if they will be similarly ridiculed.

If union non-union were the case, Honda, Kia, Mazda, Mercedes, and many more transplants would be on the hot seat. They are not.
Many government employees drive transplant and frankly Toyota products. There appear to be some real (safety) issues here and to state that it is some pro union hack job is simply foolish.
That said I hope that they figure it out and fix it.

The manufacturer with the second highest number of UA cases (Ford) isn't being grilled (nor are any of the others).
Since this issue affects ALL manufacturers, it's odd to see them focus on only one.
It's political theater at its worst.
I'm not defending Toyota, but rather wondering why Congress, et. al. is painting this as a Toyota exclusive issue.

A humble public apology and a hostile grilling before a congressional committee doesn't seem so bad when you compare it to the traditional Japanese measure for cases of such personal failure and betrayal of trust by an official.

Is anyone else concerned that they seem to be totally ignoring the possibility of human error in at least some percentage of these cases? Every time the question came up, the congressperson questioning Mr Lentz seemed to infer that ALL cases of (sudden) unintended acceleration were 100% a fault in the toyota vehicle.
There have been several cases noted where the driver claims they shifted to neutral and the car continued to accelerate. Even in drive by wire systems today, the shift lever is a totally isolated part of the system from the accelerator, so they are suggesting that TWO systems are failing at exactly the same time ??
