Smile TCH Prices are Dropping

While reading the newspaper this morning, I discovered that my local Toyota dealership (Maita Toyota in Sacramento, CA) has four base model TCHs available for $23,988.

Given that gas is hovering around $3.30/gal here for 87, I would've expected hybrid sales to skyrocket. The last thing that I expected was for the TCH to be selling for under listed invoice.

So, are the lowered prices due to the lack of sales, or is it merely because Toyota has finally boosted up production to keep up with demand?

I would guess it's because of the abundant supply and the federal tax credit has been cut in half from $1300 to $650.

I'd suspect that it's a combination of many factors including increased production, lower gas prices (but maybe not for long), decreasing tax credit, and the fact that it's no longer as "new" - there are 2007 Camrys everywhere now. I don't think it's a sudden change either, as my base model is over three months old (12/28/06) and I only paid about $500 more than that (and I'm a terrible negotiator).

I paid $24,450 at the end of last month for my base TCH. I also got the $1300 tax credit though. Financed $26k out the door.

Back on 1/27/07 I ordered my TCH with leather, moon roof, nav, convience, and security with an MSRP of $31,353 and paid $28,500 before the $400 college grade rebate. Invoice was about $28,282. I left them with a little profit as I told them I would.
