I won't tell anyone I paid $2.77 in Tucson, and it is available at several places for that price today. My second tank yielded 36.9.. mostly in town, first tank was 34.6.

Are you hauling around 500 pounds of rocks in the trunk?

Let's see, a 40 mile commute, $2.95 gas, assuming A/C costs you 4 miles per gallon (I don't believe that, but) the difference in 36 mpg and 40 mpg will cost you less than 33 cents. I'll vote for using A/C every time!

BIG OOPS! that should be 34.6 and 36.9. I'm so used to "regular" cars that I even thought my mileage was in the 20s! Thanks for noticing!
I edited my post above to correct my error.

I don't know if I buy that the AC costs you 4 MPG, I would say max 1-2, no car I have ever owned did it make more than a 1-2 MPG difference
I totally agree with you but there is a lot of concern here and on Edmunds about this effect. I have not had mine off since I bought it in early May. It will be interesting this fall to see if it has impacted me. I have good FE numbers for long trips I routeinly make and can do comparisons. Just don't plan on running those tests until it gets in the low 70's.

Here in San Diego, gas is $3.13 today at Costco. If I travel down to Tijuna, MX, 20 miles south, it's $2.60 after you convert. You must pay cash (no 5% rebate on your credit card) and when you factor in the wait at the border of up to an hour to cross, I'll only do it when I'm down there for business or visiting someone and coming back when the wait is short in the evening. Today a 20 mile trip each way gave a differance of less than 3 mpg with the AC on on the way back. I'm still on my first tank with 1/4 left. Looks like I'll get 4 weeks on it. EV says I'm geting 32.4 mpg so far. I have the AC on all the time except for the above test and its set on auto and ECO. I find It cools the car quickly, and when it reaches the set temperture (72) very quiet. I like the feature that it switches from recirulation to fresh after it cools down by itself. I hardly ever chance it.

When I got home from work FE was 41.9. I decided to take the non-highway route home (my winter route to avoid the horrid highway traffic once school is back in session in my multi-college-city area), so that probably contributed to the increase as well. I also did not use the a/c again, but instead chose to roll down the windows since the temperature is very mild today.
Once home I had to go back out to the grocery store to pick up bread, and upon my return home again FE is 42.6!![Teeth](https://electricvehicleforums.com/forums/images/smilies/emotikons/teeth.gif)
And, wow, you all are paying a lot less for gas than we are up here in CT. I swear we are being gouged.

My pleasant surprise is that on "pure highway driving" I get about 2 mpg better than the EPA rating. On city (rural city driving for me_I get in the mid 40's and stay in EV most of the time).
The only rating the EPA missed should be called "non-interested spouse driving", she gets 37 highway, but does well on the 2 lane rural at about 40 mpg
