I had my first oil change at my local toyota dealer where I bought my TCH last year and I had synthetic oil cos I keep hearing from people here that synthetic one is better then the regular but the price tag was $ 78.

I always felt that was like bringing you own raw meat to a restaurant and saying "cook this".

I paid $47 for my first oil change and tire rotation with a coupon from the dealer's website, Carmax/Laurel Toyota in Laurel, MD. I think their regular price for the 5,000 mile maintenance was $80-$90. I asked for synthetic, and was told there was no extra charge because the car came with synthetic oil and that's what Toyota recommended. There should not be such inconsistencies in the information the dealers are providing on this issue. Has anyone been able to verify exactly what kind of oil was in our new cars? My jasper pearl base model was made in Japan.

If you don’t change the oil yourself, than this method is the most effective and efficient available. And…you get the benefit of a Toyota filter.
A lot of sport car enthusiast also uses this method for synthetic oil changes.

$29.85 for the oil (had to buy 5 quarts, so I have about 3/4 of a quart left over). (Mobil 1 0W-20)
$4.50 for the Toyota filter.
1/2 hour of my time.
$29.85+$4.50= $34.35. ($45.85 if you include the amount that I charged myself in labor costs)

for my oil change, they used VV955 SYNPOWER OIL.
FIRST OIL CHANGE FOR MY TCH. They put 5 of this and one filter and total cost was $78.
VV means volvo something I guess.
I was told that once I use synthetic oil, I must always use synthetic oil and not change to regular oil. true?

I just changed myself the engine oil (saw MAINT REQUIRED SOON reminder) using 100% fully synthetic Mobil 1 0W-20 at 4670 miles and it cost me only less than $35 (including tax).
