FYI, the officially stated towing capacity for the TCH as published by Toyota is "Towing Not Recommended". Only the non-hybrid Camry's have a towing capacity of 1000lbs. It has been mentioned many times on this forum that anybody who decides to tow with their TCH anyway should be prepared to have any type of suspension warranty declined by Toyota.

I worried about the trunk size when I moved up from my 2003 Corolla. I haven't taken a really long trip yet, but we did a long weekend for the winter holidays with some good sized suitcases as well as 2-3 bags of gifts and had no problem. The high square trunk lid creates a lot of space that really isn't obvious when you're standing with the lid open looking into the trunk.

Fair enough. I have not found that information anywhere on the Toyota website, despite reading articles (that could be wrong) that state the towing capacity.

There is only one thread in the TCH forums with "tow" or "towing" in the title. The discussion was so hot that it took 2 months to get 21 replies and the only person who said anything about the warranty was you.

If I were Toyota, I probably would not recommend it either, because the moment you say its okay, some dufus will try to tow their boat. I don't think the hybrid system would like hauling 1500 - 2000 lbs behind it. However, I do trust the design and engineering margins enough to feel that going 5 or 10% beyond the cars published ratings won't hurt it either.

So, for me it comes down to this: Will towing 300 balanced pounds hurt the car? I don't think so. It just becomes one of those things that no one will be able to prove or disprove until they do it.

If I do it, I'll post pictures... Have a good day all!

I have one due in June and we were actually at Toys-r-us this past weekend taking floor model strollers out to the trunk to see if they would fit. It was tight for some of them and it filled over half the trunk. When we go out of town and have to pack more we are going to have to take the Highlander. I guess it is time to trade it for a HH. I have to tow also so I keep the Highlander. I work with my wife and we car pool in the Camry. I put less than 70 miles on my Highlander a week now.

My only question is: how many sets of golf clubs can I fit? My new TCH will be here in two weeks, and golf season is right around the corner!

Prolly two. Which makes is bad if you're hauling a foursome.

I think that if you are talking about two oversized Pro type golf bags then 2 might be right. If you have 4 average size golf bags I think you could probably get 4 in there.

I can't prove this, it is only an assumption based on looking at the trunk. I'll let you know when I get my TCH

I've gotten 4 carry bags in there with some effort. For full size staff bags, I'm not sure you could even get 2 in there.

The owner's manual states the towing capacity as "Not recomended" so Toyota has published this in a very easy to find location.

I personally don't think there is a problem towing, especially if you keep the toatl weight of car and trailer under the gross vehicle weight limit. But then again, most people exceed this limit without towing. I also don't think there would be any suspension problems, but the HSD might not like too much of a load.

What you "personally" think is of no value if there is a problem. The fact you have a hitch on the car or there is evidence you HAD a hitch on the car puts to responsibility on YOU to prove you didn't damage the car by towing. Impossible to do. It's impossible to prove a negative.
