I've got mine on steel rims and swap them out for the summer months. Around here (Ottawa) that comes out to about 6 months for each set of tires - snow season being from November to April...

I would expect that the rubber is too soft to run them in the warmer weather. I would imagine they'd wear pretty quickly if you did that.

 

I have ran Nokians on all my vehicles for many years, all year round, and have had no issues in dry, wet, or snow conditions in upstate NY. I currently have the Nokian WRs on my Grand Cherokee, Acura, and TCH. On my TCH, I obtain 38-40 mpg and in the winter around 34-36 mpg. They are winter / snow rated (mountain and snow flake symbol) and are designed to run year round. They have deep treads with many sipes, but very low noise. Good luck in your selection.

 

It has now been about a month, 15,000 kms on vehicle, running 0w20 mobi one, previous best tank was 5.3/100 km and yesterday I got 5.2/100 on a tank, outside temperature about 48-50 F. I have tire pressure at 42/40 as these are xl tires with max pressure of 51 psi.

Overall I am quite impressed with these michelin winter tires.

 

For you guys swapping out to steelies for the winter what do you do about the tire pressure monitoring system?

 

Not an issue for me - they don't provide it for the TCHs sold in Canada (grumble, grumble).

 

Really? I am in Calgary and was told by the dealer if I want new rims and tires I need to purchase new TPM's for each wheel at a cost of over $100 each so as not to trigger the sensor.

 

no tpms in canada only a us regulation being through toyota canada on my 2009 on this issue even though the manual says you have one

 

Hmm... Can you verify that you actually have the sensors, or is this just what your dealer is saying? I think one way of knowing is if you have the re-calibrate button which I beleive is in the glove compartment. My dealer says that no TCH sold for the CDN market has the TPMS.

on the canadian model you can see the place where the button is supposed to be in the glove box, however it is blank, I have also verified this by removing my tires from the factory rims and they are standard air stems.
