Washed my TCH for the 2nd time the other day and I again noticed that my trunk lid and rear bumper were not as smooth as the rest of the car. I had the paint protection package put on just after purchase. Has anyone else noticed anything like this?

 

I haven't noticed any rough spots on it yet, and I also have the paint protection. I'll try to check after I get it washed this week.

The dealer will send out one of his "boys" to rough up anybody that dares scuff your paint.

Oh, and some will also apply a long lasting protective wax like coating to the paint too (I'm sure the marketing literature does more justice to the description that I did).

It's a $400 wax job

 

I think we paid $300 for the interior fabric protection and exterior paint protection. The flier is in the glovebox at the moment, so I don't have the name, but it's not just a wax job. I won't have to wax the car, in 2 years they'll apply it again for free, and those annoying little paint transfers from other car's doors in parking lots will just rub off... I think it was worth it. *shrug*

 

I just can't imagine any coating lasting 2 years...

 

Sorry, but being cynical I consider most of the 'add-ons' to be mainly sold to boost dealer profit, whether it's paint protectant, fabric protectant, undercoating, rustproofing, etc. In fact, on cars sold below MSRP it would not surprise me if they made more on the add-ons than the car itself. It doesn't mean that it is not useful, just overpriced.

Some items could be useful. I know from owning a furniture store that fabric protection does make stains much easier to clean. In fact I'm thinking of fabri-coating the car seats. Other items, such as paint protectant, I don't think helps, but I don't think hurts. And others, such as rust-proofing actually caused cars to rust out sooner due to plugging of weep holes used to drain water.

Ok, it's only a $300 wax job with a $8 can of Scotch Guard thrown in. Poly coatings give a nice finish, but they bond with the paint and if you ever need to have something touched up they will have a problem. I did my BMW and when the roof got scratched they tried to touch it up. Had to take it all the way to bare metal. Stuff does a good job, but it is the same stuff you can buy for $10

 

Bummer. I was hoping 'paint protection' was a force field that stopped shopping carts about a foot from your car, deflecting them towards the Hummer parked down the way.
