I've got around 17200 miles on my car and the maint req light came on a couple of days ago.

Normally I do what the light says and head for an oil change at this point, but I had an oil change at the very beginning of Feb. That was around 14900 miles. Two months and a little more than 2000 miles? Seems a little tight.

Does the maint req light signify anything other than an oil change? Or is 17000 miles more relevant a landmark than i realized? And for that matter, what is the computer guided frequency for oil changes?

 

Had the maintenance required light come on before your oil change in Feb. at 14.9K or did you "pre-emptively" change it?

Maybe the MR light wasn't reset after the Feb. oil change and it finally triggered at 17.2K. Sometimes the techs forget to do the reset.

 

Someone dd not reset their maint light, that's all.

 

My maintenance required light comes on a day or so before it warns of the upcoming oil change. I do my own oil and filter change. I read the manual on how to reset the MDF readout at 5000 mile intervals.

 

Check your cabin filter.

 

The computer will turn the maintenance required light on at approx. 500mi before the factory set interval of 5000mi. So......mine came on at 4500mi and will come on again at 9500mi.........unless another maintenace issue triggers it to come on before that.
