I'm surprised the Kentucky built version allows the gas door to be opened when in motion. I have a very low VIN model out of Japan and it doesn't allow this. I still double check each time though when using the ECO button, to avoid hitting the wrong button. The raised dot braille effect helps me differentiate. (very nice touch, helps keeps one's eyes on the road).

I've also found with a tailwind it helps to open your doors to use as sails also!

Ah, yes, however for extreme fuel economy with a tail wind, try this:
1) throw car into reverse;
2) pull a 70 MPH bat turn;
3) pop the hood;
4) then shift into neutral.
It gets a little hairy driving using the small rearview mirror. I may get a back-up camera, maybe even a small, lightweight radar system.

Been there, done that.
Since it's better to do that at night, you have to remember to tape a flashlight to the back of the car since the brake lights don't do a good job of lighting up the road.

Frontwards or backwards, remember to take out whichever window is towards the back so the interior of the car can "scoop" a little more air as well. If you leave it in the aerodynamics will simply deflect the air over the top, and that's a lost opportunity for propulsion!

My 2007 Japanese built, and July 2006 delivered, TCH's fuel door will NOT open while the vehicle is in motion. Tested and confirmed. For what it's worth, I have never mistaken the fuel door button for the ECO button, or vice versa in 2 years and 35,753 miles.

Ok. Just to add to the thread. My 2009 TCH, bought in May, built in Kentucky, will not open the fuel door while the car is in motion. I just checked it on the freeway at 60mph and in the driveway coasting at less than 5mph.

OK, so it's not an import/domestic issue.
Is it a model year (cost savings) feature?

What model year are the ones that allow it to open when in motion?
